Oyster Catchers is stylish and offers accommodation for either a family of 4 or two couples in the heart of Watchet (a further 'z-bed' and/or travel cot can be made available by prior arrangement). The rear garden overlooks the sea and it's just a minute onto the beach on foot!
Oyster Catchers is a pretty mid terrace cottage set in the heart of the old town of Watchet, overlooking the sea and just a minute onto the beach. With direct access from its back door onto the beach, this offers the visitor all year round stunning views of its shore and coastline. A superb opportunity to paint, go fossiling for ammonites, or walk. The cottage is stylish and offers accommodation for either a family of 4 or two couples, a 'z-bed' and travel cot can be made available by prior arrangement. Because of its unique location there is a beach hut in the picket fenced garden, which looks directly down onto the 1930's sea pool - a favourite for: crabbing, boating, skimming stones and bathing. The tide at Watchet is the second highest in the world , so be prepared for continually changing dramatic sea scapes. This is the perfect location for sitting by the beach hut watching the sunset over the sea with a glass of something special. The owners are dog lovers and therefore arrangements to bring your faithful hound/s (strictly up to two maximum) can be arranged. The beach is all year round dog -friendly with superb walks on Long Sands. Please appreciate that in the interests of hygiene and cleanliness dogs will not be permitted upstairs, thank you for your cooperation. Visitors will find Watchet perfectly placed for visits up onto: The Quantocks, Exmoor National Park and Minehead or a shopping trip to Taunton. Watchet is renowned for being just the friendliest of towns and this is what draws visitors who we see returning, year in and year out. With a Steam train station, a Marina, a thriving arts community and wide variety of bars and clubs all offering something musical (live bands nearly every weekend, free of charge) there is something here for everyone.

Up a short flight of stairs and immediately at the top of these, is the bathroom, with a separate shower and roll-top bath. Up the small dog leg and immediately to your right is the twin bedroom (which can be converted into a double bed on request), this room overlooks the back of the house. The larger of the two rooms is at the front of the house and has a double bed. The house is centrally heated throughout. Heating and electricity is included in the price of your accommodation. Wifi is also available at no extra charge. Please note that towels are not provided, please bring your own. Ben linen is provided. To the rear of the property are two private areas both gated and bordered by picket fencing. The first is immediately to the rear of the house and flagged. This is separated from the second by a footpath that runs the length of the backs of this old fishermans terrace, straight down to the slipway and onto the beach below. The second area is just beyond the footpath and situated on the bluff looking down onto the beach. Again picket fenced and gated - but gravelled, this looks directly over the beach and sea pool below. This position offers stunning views across to the harbour wall with its red lighthouse, as well as towards the island Steepholm and the coast of Wales. It is here that the tenants have the added bonus of a beach hut with deck chairs, in which they can sit enjoying the spectacular seascapes.

The region
+ MoreWatchet is a picturesque town nestled on the West Somerset coastline. With Exmoor to the East, the Brendon Hills to the South and the Quantocks to the West, it is a great spot for exploring. Watchet is a small but friendly town which packs a lot in. It has an active Marina, St...eam train station, Old Port, museums, shops, restaurants, pubs and takeaways! From Easter onwards there is a weekly Wednesday market and every first Sunday of the month, there is an eclectic crafts, artisan and food market. Watchet has a thriving arts and music scene. Contains Arts, on the East quay hosts a fascinating array of exhibitions. Local, national and international artists exhibit here and In 2017 it hosted an exhibition of Matisse. There are a number of artists in residence at the Containers and in the main thoroughfare where you can look at their work , chat and if you feel desiring of their work , can invest ! The Lynda Cotton Gallery opposite the pharmacy on Swain Street is also a fantastic place to purchase beautiful established artwork from the past masters- don't be afraid to go in to the shop, it is a kindly and significantly knowledgable proprietor who runs it. There are two museums in Watchet . The Boat museum up by the Tourist Information Centre opposite the entrance to the Steam railway and Market House Museum by the Esplanade. There is shortly to be a new museum in Anchor Street, that will house a fascinating collection of broadcasting, wireless equipment and memorabilia. For the Anglers amongst you there are daily sea fishing trips that head out from the Marina, just enquire at The Marina office. Watchet is a great place for the bargain hunters amongst you. There is an Antiques shop at one end of the town and upstairs in the Marina is 'Rogers', a fascinating Aladdins cave of collectables as is the Smugglers. There are many walks, along the Mineral Line, up and around the Church and along the rope walk, across to Donniford Beach. Or if you prefer to people watch, you can just sit and take in the charm of the Esplanade and the Marina.
For eating and only 6 minutes away is The Cat's Whisker at No.6A Anchor street. This is a wonderful Tapas restaurant that specialises in the real MaCoy ! It is reasonably priced with a BYO option, but be warned, it is popular and people come from outside the vicinity to eat there, so booking is essential if you are to get in on one of their two sittings. We have two Fish and Chip shops in the town. That which is down in the centre, but the locals all use Andrews up on the opposite side of town in Liddymore Road. The Spice Merchant immediately at the foot of West Street is a great Indian and this offers takeaway too. So convenient when moments away from Oyster Catchers!

Night life in Watchet is literally on your doorstep. You have a number of tradiitional pubs that offer pub grub, such as the London, Star and Bell where you can eat or just have a quiet drink. For the music lovers there is Pebbles Cider bar- a bijou but friendly joint - which has live music. The Esplanade club has great bands that start at around 9.30 pm and go on until 12- 12.30 pm . Punters generally ca'nt resist dancing and this is actively encouraged by some great bands. Just look on its windows for that months listings of who is playing. The RBL also has bands, usually covers bands and they too will offer a warm welcome to new faces . The West Somerset Hotel appeals to a younger clientele- recently they have branched out into the music scene and there is a pool table to one side.
There is beach immediaetly below the property Oyster Catchers, but don't be fooled into thinking this is it ! Walk over the steps to the far right or round the rocks . Negotiate a little more of the pebbles and you will fingd Long Sands just opens out infront of you. Walk right along when the tide is out and you can reach Blue Anchor ! To the East of Watchet , following the Rope Walk bt the railway is Donniford Beach. All our beaches are a rich source of fossils . In particular anmmonites. Or you might find pieces of white or pink alabaster. A quick drive from Watchet towards the Bridgewater road will take you to St Audries , another special beach and further on you have Kilve. Watchet also has the Mineral Line a pleasant walk that will take you up Washford. Of course we have Staple Plain up on The Quantocks and walks to Roadwater up the Mineral Line from Waatchet. Just look for the signage around the town or pick up a tourist map at the Tourist Information Office opposite the Steam Railway. It really is a marvellous place to walk, explore and admire.
