The region
+ MoreBamboo Cottage is located in the Exmoor village of Timberscombe, just two miles from the medieval village of Dunster, with its many quirky shops, eateries and traditional pubs and magnificent castle. Situated in the Exmoor National Park, the cottage is ideal for walkers, cyclis...ts and nature-lovers with an abundance of walks and cycle routes on the doorstep or a short drive away. Exmoor itself is diverse and dramatic, with its vast areas of moorland, valleys and forests, gentle slopes and rivers. The nearby dramatic coastline, with its coastal path, offers panoramic views across to Wales. Timberscombe is an attractive working village, perfect for exploring the region. It has a dog friendly village pub. The local shop (and post-office) has all the necessities. The stunning Somerset coastline is just under 5 miles away.
The village pub is just couple of minutes on foot from the cottage (if that!). At present it does not serve food. Dunster village has a great selection of pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and cafes. In the opposite direction, Wheddon Cross has a village pub called The Rest and Be Thankful Inn, plus a mini-supermarket with long-opening hours (at the petrol station). The nearest main supermarkets are in Minehead, Tesco, Lidl and Morrisons. There's also a fantastic farm shop and butcher on Hawkesworth Road (next to Tesco car park) called Stuart Lowen Farm Shop. Well worth a visit for local meat and produce, open Monday to Saturday 7.30 am to 5 pm. Please support our local traders.
Here are just some of our favourite places to visit:- Dunster (Castle, shops, restaurants and many events throughout the year) Horner Woods (with lovely walks and tearooms) Bossington Village (National Trust, walks, tearooms) Bossington Hill Minehead (Coastal path with great views) Dunkery Beacon (Highest point) Blue Anchor (Café, beach, Smugglers' Pub) Selworthy Beacon Tarr Steps Dunster Beach Porlock and Porlock Weir Grabbist Hill (The hill opposite cottage)
There are endless walks and hikes from just outside the cottage to further afield all over Exmoor. Dunster beach is long and dog friendly where you can walk for miles.
