The Old Sweet Shop on Vicarage Road in Minehead (Holiday Cottage) has served many purposes over the years, most notably as the local sweet shop. Some of the neighbours can remember buying strawberry sherbets, gobstoppers and ice creams here on the way to and from school in the 1950s. The property has undergone an extensive and sympathetic restoration to maximise the cottage’s space and light, beautiful sweeping staircase, impressive beams and large fireplace. The old complements the new perfectly in The Old Sweet Shop. Sleeps up to eight guests in four bedrooms Luxurious holiday cottage complete with hot tub Three double bedrooms and one twin bedroom Four bathrooms (three are en-suites) Private and enclosed patio and garden with outside seating and a summerhouse Large hot tub Easy access to all amenities including restaurants, pubs, tea rooms and shops Bed linen and towels provided (bring your own beach towels for use in the hot tub) Wi-Fi, heating and electricity included Off-road parking for 2 cars Dogs welcome (2 max) for £30 supplement per dog Arrive from 4 pm Depart by 10 am The sitting room has a large fireplace with a wood burning stove. Look carefully and you’ll see the burns shaped like pear drops on the large wooden mantelpiece. These ancient marks were made when a hot poker, taken straight from the open fire, was used to stir cider (a “hot toddyâ€). There are charming mullion lead-framed windows with pretty seats as well as comfortable sofas and armchairs. You’ll also find a large flat screen smart TV with Sky, Netflix and Blu-ray DVD player, and choice of films, books, jigsaws, games and toys to keep you occupied. There are four tastefully decorated double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Antique furniture, high-quality mattresses and furnishings, crisp bedding and soft towels complement the décor of each room – all of which have a confectionery theme. Choose from Marshmallow, Lemon Drop, Strawberry Sherbet or Refresher. Upstairs, Marshmallow, a luxurious king bedroom, is a large airy room with a stunning en-suite bathroom with a roll top bath. Lemon Drop is our twin room with an en-suite with a shower. Downstairs, Strawberry Sherbet, a double, is the original shop. It retains the distinctive bay window which we decorate with seasonal displays. Refresher has a gorgeous king four poster bed, large shower and lots of light. With views into the garden, the spacious kitchen/diner has a large cooker, high-spec appliances and oodles of work and storage space. Perfect for family gatherings, the dining area has a large oak table that seats eight comfortably. This is an enjoyable, sociable space where you can cook and chat, play games or enjoy afternoon tea. The utility room houses a washing machine, tumble drier and fridge/freezer. You’ll find a high chair and vacuum too. Outside is a pretty cottage garden, with a lawn edged with borders, summer house and two patio areas with picnic tables. Our large hot tub offers plenty of jets and soft lighting for night time. On a clear night, you’ll be amazed by the view of the stars, thanks to the Exmoor Dark Sky Reserve. The Old Sweet Shop is centrally heated throughout. Linen and towels are also provided. Please bring your own beach towels for use in the hot tub. There is on-site parking for two cars. Dogs are welcome (2 maximum) and for £30 supplement per dog per booking.
