The region
+ MoreMinehead is a lovely seaside town that also sits on the edge of Exmoor National Park. If walking is your passion, there is no better place to be. Not only do you have Exmoor stretching out before you with its magnificent views, wildlife and cosy pubs, the town is also the startin...g point of the Southwest National Trail, the longest distance countryside trail we have. It's also the terminus for West Somerset Railway, the longest heritage railway in Britain.
The kitchen/dining area provides a great place for family eating. The Portside Diner, a few minutes walk towards the harbour is a good place for breakfast, cream teas and Sunday lunch all year round. The Old Ship Aground pub at the harbour is a popular gastro-pub with live music on Friday evenings and Sunday lunchtimes. Echo Beach cafe situated right on the harbour is also a good place for breakfast and light meals.
A popular activity is riding on the steam train; the station is a 10 minute walk from the cottage. Blenhim Gardens is also close by where you can enjoy a cup of tea and listen to the band in the summer. There is a pitch and put golf course here and a crazy golf course on the seafront. There is a small selection of board games and jigsaws provided.
The sandy beach is great for digging and sandcastles with easy access. The sea is rated 5 star for water quality and so is good for paddling and swimming. Crabbing at the harbour is good fun at high tide. You can walk from the cottage up on to North Hill via the ZigZag path or begin the Southwest Coastal path. A popular walk is along the sand dunes to Dunster beach. Maps and books with local walks are provided at the cottage.
