The cottage itself is full of character and charm but tastefully furnished and well equipped. There is a good sized and well equipped kitchen diner, with a dining table that seats 6 comfortably, and a separate very cosy lounge with a three seater sofa and two armchairs. There are two good sized bedrooms with built in wardrobes, one with a double bed and the other with twin beds (and a third spare mattress for occasional use). The third bedroom is very small and has a single bed. There is a family bathroom upstairs with bath, over the bath shower, sink and toilet, and a downstairs toilet and shower. The region
+ MoreLynbridge is a hamlet half a mile inland from the twin villages of Lynton and Lynmouth on the north Devon coast. The West Lyn River runs through Lynbridge, bordered by a National Trust woodland. In the hamlet there are a few cottages and bed & breakfasts, a campsite and a pub se...rving renowed Thai food and Sunday roasts with its own microbrewery. A ten minute walk or two minute drive will take you into Lynton where you'll find everything you need for your day to day stay including two well stocked convenience stores, a post office, a walk in health centre and a pharmacy. The world famous cliff railway takes you down to its harbourside twin village of Lynmouth with its bay beloved by surfers, and numerous pubs, restaurants and tea rooms. The area around Lynton and Lynmouth was made famous by the Romantic Poets and once you get there, you'll understand why they fell in love with this little corner of Exmoor. The area is exceptionally beautiful, with rugged wooded river valleys, steep-sided coves, moorland where wild ponies graze, and ancient temperate forests where you'll see ferns growing in the trees. It's a paradise for walkers and wild swimming enthusiasts. with plenty of amenities for families including eateries, mini golf, tennis ,boat trips and water sports.
You are spoilt for choice of eateries in this area. There is a pub opposite the cottage which serves the best Thai food you'll have ever tasted. The chef was a TV chef in Thailand before relocating to Devon! In Lynton and Lynmouth you'll find pub grub, tapas, fish and chips, pies, Mediterranean food, not to mention ice cream and afternoon teas aplenty. If you want to do a big food shop from one of the supermarket chains in Barnstaple, this can be delivered to the door of the cottage, saving you the effort of carrying bags up the steps. On arrival you'll find tea and coffee, milk (please ask if you prefer non dairy), sugar and biscuits.
Self-guided walking (there are maps and books in the cottage) Walking tours Bat watching Stargazing (Exmoor is a Dark Skies Reserve) Sea and river swimming Watersports such as paddle boarding, surfing, sea kayaking Tennis (Lynton and Lynmouth both have public tennis courts) Mini golf Horse riding and pony trekking Cinema (Lynton has a community cinema) Arts and Crafts shopping
There are so many walks from the doorstep or a short drive away, it's impossible to list them all, but they include riverside, woodland, moorland or beach / coastal walks. The South West Coast Path runs through Lynton and Lynmouth. The cottage is well stocked with walking books and maps. There is river swimming five minutes' walk from the cottage. Instructions on how to find the best spot - which has a waterfall and is deep enough to fully immerse yourself in - is in the guests' information booklet left in the cottage. There is a good swimming beach with a rocky floor (you'll need beach shoes) a 5 minute drive away at Lea Abbey Bay, and a huge sandy beach at Woolacombe, a 20 minute drive away.

More tips on how to get there
Take the train to Barnstaple, and then the 309/310 bus to Lynton. It takes around an hour and runs approximately every hour. Alternatively, if you are cash rich and time poor, take the train to Tiverton Parkway and take a taxi. It takes about an hour and will cost you around £120, but you'll save 3 hours journey time.
