The region
+ MoreLydeard St Lawrence is a small village in Somerset. Ideally located to explore the Brendon Hills, the Quantocks, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as Exmoor National Park. It also has good access to motorway and transport links, being less than 10 miles from the co...unty town of Taunton. The nearest villages are Bishops Lydeard and Williton, the nearby towns include Wiveliscombe, Wellington and Dunster.
There are a selection of pubs within a short drive or slightly longer walk from the property. The closest are The Carew and The Farmers Arms. Both have a lovely outside seating area and serve good quality, hearty pub food and local ales. A little further out you have The Bicknoller, The Rising Sun, The Lethbridge Arms and The New Inn at Halse. If you are looking for something a bit smarter Podshavers or Reeves are worth going to and the Lutrell Arms at Dunster does and excellent Sunday Roast.
Day trips and Attractions include: The Museum of Somerset, Dunster Castle, Hestercombe Gardens, Brewhouse Theatre and Arts Centre, The Cricket County grounds, The Quantock Brewery, Sheppy's Cider, West Somerset Railway, Space Adventures Indoor Soft Play, Doniford Farm Park, Glastonbury Tor, and Fyne Court Mountain Biking- The Quantock Hills have endless tracks to cycle around but they are not for the faint hearted, be prepared for mud and steep climbs. Horse riding- There are a number of riding schools in the local area if you do not have your own horse. From the property there are several bridlepaths to choose from and a short drive away you can get out onto the Quantock Hills, Exmoor, Pontispool Equestrian Centre, or the beach at Blue Anchor. Sea swimming- The property is within a half hour drive from the beaches at Blue Anchor and Dunster. Further afield Woolacombe and Porlock are worth going to.
Walking- The property is based on a footpath, which branches out in 4 different directions. Ample choice for either a short or longer distance walk just outside your front door. Hiking- The property is based at the foot of the Quantock Hills (AONB) and is well worth a visit. Whether you want a short gentle stroll surrounded by stunning scenery or a more challenging adventure, there are endless routes to choose from. Exmoor is not far away and is easy to get to but to make it count a day trip would be your best option. Beaches-The property is within a half hour drive from the beaches at Blue Anchor and Dunster. Further afield Woolacombe and Porlock are worth going to, all of which are dog friendly.
