The region
+ MoreThe picturesque village of Withypool is set in the heart of Exmoor National Park, straddling the river Barle and is surrounded by the beautiful, unique scenery. The village has a pub, tea room and village shop and there are fabulous walks direct from the door, either along the ri...ver or across the moor, whether you're looking for a short stroll or a day-long expedition. The Two Moors Way also passed through the village. To the southwest of the Village lies Withypool Common and Withypool Hill. Just two miles upstream from Withypool is the delightful Landacre Bridge, a late medieval five-arch stone bridge, a great place for paddling and picnicking in good weather.
The Royal Oak Inn in the village, Tarr Steps Bar and Restaurant, Woods in Dulverton, Locanda at Porlock Weir, The Quarryman at Bampton and The Crown in Exford, are all lovely places to eat out. The tea room in the village is a must and also offers gluten free food. There is also a beachside Sri Lankan restaurant at Woolacombe and a super Thai restaurant in Dulverton. Periwinkle tea room in Selworthy is a favourite as well as the Luttrell Arms in Dunster There is even a mobile fish and chip van which visits Winsford Village on Wednesday evenings during the summer. For supplies, Withypool has an excellent village shop which is open every day, please support our local traders. More info here: www.withypoolexmoor.co.uk/village-shop If you need a supermarket delivery Tesco, Sainsbury or Morrisons deliver to this area
Local places of interest are Dunkery Beacon, Porlock Weir, Dunster Castle and Wimbleball Lake, to name but a few! Walking is out of the door either along the river to Tarr steps, Simonsbath or Landacre bridge. Walking trails start from the village for those wishing to explore Exmoor on foot. The Two Moors Way does through the village Fishing, horse riding is all local, hawk walks can be arranged. The north coast between Minehead and Lynton is breathtaking and is only a 30 minute car ride. The beaches of Ilfracombe and Woolacombe are also in easy reach for a days outing.
Many people come to Exmoor just for the walking, there are a myriad of footpaths crisscrossing the National Park and Withypool is no exception. Wonderful walking direct from the door include the walk to Landacre Bridge, which follows the river to the west, a lovely walk on a fine day. Or to the east you can walk to Tarr Steps - a prehistoric clapper bridge possibly dating from 1000BC. After crossing the bridge, you can eat or simply have a pint at the Tarr Steps pub. If the sea beckons Saunton Sands, Braunton Burrows, Croyde and Ilfracombe are all within an hour’s drive.
