Trinity Cottage enjoys an elevated position above the village; the views across the valley and the village, with the local cricket field below are a typical country scene to enjoy. The private drive is quite narrow and opens up into the gravel parking area and large garage to the side of the cottage. The lawn garden at the front is accessed via a few steps up from the drive, here you will find a small table and chairs, a lovely quiet spot for relaxing with a good book. To the rear of the cottage is the patio and gravel garden area with further outside furniture, ideal for dining alfresco when the weather permits. The garden is enclosed by a hedge and fenced around the perimeter but we cannot guarantee that it is entirely dog-proof. A gate can be closed across the access drive also. A five-bar gate from the parking area leads to a stable block, one of which can be used to store bicycles or other outdoor equipment if you wish to store these items in a secure place (bring a padlock to lock the door if you wish to). The central 2 stables have been converted into a weatherproof, heated games room which currently houses a pub pool table, dartboard and table football as well as a small bar area and sofa. Behind the stables is a 3-acre field that belongs to the property which is available for guests to use; it has the best views across the valley and down into the village. The field is fenced but we cannot guarantee it is entirely enclosed. Please note that there are sometimes sheep grazing in one half of the paddock so please keep dogs under control.

The region
+ MoreThe village of Roadwater lies at the foot of the Brendon Hills within Exmoor National Park. Roadwater has a thriving community-owned village shop, pub (The Valiant Soldier), village hall, recreation ground and chapel. The coastline and the West Somerset Steam Railway are notable ...attractions of the area. The beautiful countryside of Exmoor National Park and The Quantock Hills is on the doorstep, with wooded combes and river valleys, open moorland, pretty villages and dramatic coastline. Williton is a 10 minute drive away and has a well stocked Co-Op and Spa, a lovely butcher/deli specialising in locally produced meats and cheeses, an Indian restaurant, fish & chip shop, petrol station, gallery and pubs. Minehead is approximately 7 miles from the property. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco and Morrison's are both situated on the outskirts of the town), most major high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops throughout the town. Taunton is the county town of Somerset and is approximately 20 miles away.
Recommendations for eating out from the owner: There are plenty of options for eating out in the surrounding area. The Valiant Soldier is 5 mins walk away, up through the village. It's dog and child-friendly and offers a large selection of good pub food and local ales. There's a dart board, pool table and beer garden. Slightly further afield (3 miles along the valley floor) is The Royal Oak, Luxborough. High quality pub food served, local ales, fine wines. Dogs welcome in the bar area. Booking is recommended. If you fancy a hike up to the top of the valley, try The Ralegh's Cross Inn. A good walk of an hour and a half will reward you with breathtaking views out across the Bristol Channel and over to Wales. Pub grub, carvery on a Sunday and large open beer garden with a climbing frame for kids. Child and dog-friendly. The Notley Arms, Monksilver. A gastro-pub that has a great reputation for delicious food and fine wines. At The White Horse, on the road down to Washford, you'll find a beer garden and good pub food. It's about a 35 minute walk or 5 minutes in the car. Just 10 minutes drive away in Williton you'll find The Bengal Spice curry house, which my husband (who fancies himself as a bit of an curry aficionado) is very keen on. There's also a fish & chip / pizza takeaway. I would highly recommend the Somerset Farm House in Williton for locally produced meats, cheeses, homemade pies and delicatessen goods. There's also a well-stocked Co-Op and Spar and a bakery in Williton. Nearby Watchet on the coast is a picturesque village with marina and has plenty of pubs and cafes.
There is so much to do in the area it's hard to know where to start! There are a myriad of footpaths in and around the village leading to breathtaking walks to suit all ages and abilities. The cottage is nestled on the edge of beautiful Exmoor which, with it's wild hills and rugged coastline, is ripe for exploration and peppered with ancient villages and cosy country pubs. The West Somerset Steam Railway runs along the coast just 3 miles away and has a regular timetable with trains running from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead. A gentle amble, 2 miles away you'll find the Torre Cider Farm where you can sample and buy some local cider, as well as visit the animals at the little farm. For more exotic wildlife, why not try the Tropiquaria Zoo less than 10 minutes drive away where you can get up close and personal with some of their critters and let off some steam in the adventure playground. Dunster Castle in the quaint medieval village is a must see. The village itself is bursting with charm and has tearooms and gift shops galore. If you fancy a bit more hustle and bustle, just 8 miles down the coast is Minehead. There are many restaurants, a sandy beach and traditional seaside attractions.
There are many well-signposted paths that criss-cross the village - you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to walks. The Coleridge Way is just near the village and is well worth a hike - the views are fantastic. Just a few minutes from the cottage is the Mineral Line - great for a relatively easy walk that goes along the valley and then up towards the old quarry. Dunkery Beacon is the highest point on Exmoor and well worth a visit on a clear day when you can see across the Bristol Channel to Wales. There is a car park fairly close to the top (maybe 30 mins or so walk) so is easily manageable for young children or those less keen on walking! From Trinity Cottage we like to take our old bikes and follow the river gently up the valley to the Royal Oak at Luxborough for a good lunch, then swoosh back home again. There are many beaches nearby; Watchet, Blue Anchor, St Audreys Bay and Minehead.
