Details 

Robin's Brook in Porlock (Somerset) is a terraced hundred-and-twenty-year-old former quarryman's cottage, offering comfortable and cosy holiday accommodation for up to 4 guests to enjoy this beautiful area.  It is a traditional cottage, furnished accordingly.  If  you're looking for a modern atmosphere and modern furnishings, Robin's Brook probably isn't for you!

It's an easy walk into the village, and there's also great walking directly from the door if you wish to explore - the road outside the cottage turns into a bridleway further up the combe, which then leads all the way up to Hawkcombe Head, high on the moors above - a great walk if you are looking for a challenge!

Dogs are welcome (2 max) for a supplement of £20. Please do not allow your dogs on the furniture or leave them alone in the cottage.

Downstairs there is a cosy lounge with an open fire.  There is a separate dining room - we have had to board up the fire place in this room so it is out of action. There's a TV, DVD, lots of books and games for rainy days and lazy evenings in front of the fire. Both rooms have views across the combe. The kitchen is to the rear of the cottage and is equipped with an electric oven, hob, fridge (with ice box), microwave, electric kettle, toaster, and washer-dryer.  (Please note there isn't a separate freezer.)

Upstairs is the bathroom, comprising shower over the bath, toilet and hand basin. The two bedrooms are also upstairs, one double bed and one twin room, both have views to the front of the cottage and you can hear the stream running alongside the garden at the front.

Wifi, central heating and electricity are included. Coal and logs are available in Porlock.  (We may be able to provide nets of logs for a small charge if you give us a week's notice.)

 All bed linen, towels and tea towels will be provided. Please bring your own beach towels if you wish to take them outside the cottage on day trips.

Please note, there is no cot, stair gate, or highchair.

Doors from the kitchen and sitting room both open onto the enclosed yard directly behind the property.   Access to the second (outside) toilet is from the yard.  

Just across the quiet lane, a 5-bar gate opens into the lawned garden area, which is for the private use of Robin's Brook guests. One side of the lawn is bordered by the stream which runs down the far side of the garden and therefore children must be supervised at all times. The garden also has a picnic table and a lovely view of Hurlestone Down.

Turn left out of the front door for an easy walk to the varied shops, pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and galleries of Porlock. Turn right to walk up through Hawkcombe woods and on to stunning moorland scenery, looking out for red deer and Exmoor ponies as you go.

This is excellent dog-walking country and Exmoor has many dog-friendly pubs and tea rooms too.

Parking

There's a private parking space for one car directly opposite the cottage, with another possible space in front of the garden gate. If you bring bikes, you can take them round to the yard at the back, accessed along the side of "High Bank" further down the road. If you do use that access, please let Mike next door know that you'll be going through his yard. We have a right of way, so this is just a courtesy to Mike.

Dogs are welcome, and will love Exmoor, just as ours does, but please ensure that they don't jump up onto the furniture, that you clear up any mud or other mess they make, and that you don't leave them alone in the cottage at any time.

Unfortunately, there are steps up into the cottage, and a very tight space just inside the door. The bedrooms and bathroom are all upstairs, and the stairs are also quite steep.

Porlock is a wonderful working Exmoor village and boasts three pubs, two grocery shops, a traditional local butcher, chemist, cash machine, petrol station, hardware shop, visitor centre, several art galleries and a range of independent restaurants, shops and tea rooms.

There's a myriad of things to do on Exmoor whether you want to explore on foot or by car. A few suggestions include:

Drive up Porlock Hill (and beyond) for glorious walking and views of Porlock Bay, Dunkery Beacon and the coastline.

Explore Lorna Doone country, Countisbury, Watersmeet, Lynton, Lynmouth and much more - a relaxing paradise for walkers, horse-riders, bird-watchers, and naturalists alike.

The Exmoor coastline is amongst the best in the UK and the walks and views are superb. The South West Coast Path runs from Minehead, to Porlock, and into North Devon.

The combes boast ancient woodland bursting with life and most have bubbling streams that footpaths follow, particularly Hawkcombe and Horner.

Enjoy stargazing in some of the best starlit skies in the world - Exmoor National Park has been designated an International Dark Sky Reserve, the first place in Europe to achieve this award.
Porlock is located in a beautiful part of the Exmoor National Park, offering plenty of opportunities for walks and hikes. Here are some walks and beaches near Porlock:

Porlock Weir to Bossington Beach - This scenic walk takes you along the South West Coast Path from Porlock Weir to Bossington Beach, passing through picturesque villages and offering stunning views of the coastline.

Dunkery Beacon - This is the highest point on Exmoor and offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. There are several walking trails leading to the summit, ranging in difficulty from easy to moderate.

Horner Woods - This ancient woodland is home to a variety of wildlife and offers a range of walking trails, including a circular walk that takes in the charming village of Horner.

Lynmouth to Watersmeet - This popular walk follows the East Lyn River through a wooded valley, passing waterfalls and offering stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Culbone Church - This remote and historic church is said to be the smallest in England and is located on a cliff overlooking the sea. There are several walking trails leading to the church, including one from Porlock Weir.

Porlock Bay Beach - This shingle beach is located just a short walk from Porlock and offers stunning views of the surrounding coastline.

Porlock Marsh - This wetland reserve is located just outside the village of Porlock and offers a range of walking trails through marshland and along the riverbank.

Minehead Beach - This long, sandy beach is located just a short drive from Porlock and is a popular spot for swimming and sunbathing.

Selworthy Beacon - This hill offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and is a popular spot for walkers and cyclists.

Exmoor Coastal Walk - This 16-mile walk takes in some of the most stunning coastal scenery in the area, passing through charming villages and offering breathtaking views of the sea and surrounding countryside.
