The region
+ MoreMinehead is one of West Somerset's best known and well-loved coastal resorts, nestling as between the slopes of Exmoor and the sea. The town offers a wide range of attractions, including the beach, promenade, harbour, beautiful gardens and colourful tree lined avenue with an arra...y of shops and services. Dominated by the wooded slopes of North Hill, the whole area is renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and there are superb walks over open moor land, through woodland and along the coast.
There are many good restaurants and cafes in Minehead and surrounding villages. The nearest pub is The Ship Aground, a short walk from the front door and right beside Minehead Harbour. A little further on, still in the seafront, is The Quay Inn.
There is a heritage Steam Railway starting at Minehead and running to Bishops Lydeard. A couple of miles away there is the historic and medieval village of Dunster with the impressive Dunster Castle owned by the National Trust, well worth a visit. The cottage is a few yards away from the start of the Southwest Coastal Path where you can walk up into Exmoor or along the coast to Porlock. Within a short drive or hike there are the scenic villages of Bossington, Selworthy, Horner and Porlock. A little further there is Lyndon & Lynmouth, Valley of the Rocks and Watersmeet. Beyond Dunster there is Dulverton and Tarr Steps. The beach outside is renowned for shore fishing and the tackle shop in the harbour will be happy to sell you fresh bait. Culvercliffe playpark and grassy play area are a few yards from the house.
This is a walkers paradise with Minehead being the gateway to Exmoor. The beach outside the house the beach is stony, but reveals sandy areas at low tide. Further along towards the town there is a large sandy beach suitable for swimming.
