Perched on the edge of our beloved Exmoor National Park, Exmoor Distillery stands as a shining example of artistry and craftsmanship in the world of beverages. We love supporting local businesses, especially when they craft their products with as much care as these guys do. And, they run tours and tastings 7 days a week! So, we’re here to encourage you to pay them a visit and see how it’s done…
Their Story
Exmoor Distillery is the brainchild of husband and wife dream-team John & Nicola. The couple met in a cocktail bar over 20 years ago, and discovered they shared a deep-rooted passion for spirits, as well as the countryside in the Southwest of England. They moved to Dulverton in 2007 and 10 years later, they founded Exmoor Distillery and began brewing beautiful botanical spirits.
About the Booze
This boutique distillery has a stellar reputation for producing gins, rums & vodkas that capture the essence of its stunning surroundings. They blend traditional techniques with innovative twists to craft unique flavours that pay homage to the region’s rich spirit-making history. Exmoor Distillery’s commitment to artisanal production is evident in every step. They carefully source local ingredients and lovingly distill and bottle each spirit by hand. This meticulous attention to detail ensures the highest quality in every bottle.
It’s a Win-Gin Situation
Exmoor Distillery’s flagship gin, infused with local heather, gorse, and juniper berries, embodies the moorland’s scents and tastes. Its balanced flavours have earned it numerous awards. But the distillery also produces flavoured liqueurs and small-batch experimental releases, constantly pushing boundaries to create exciting taste experiences.
Another Thing We Love
Exmoor Distillery prioritises sustainability. They support local farmers and foragers, sourcing ingredients in a sustainable manner. They also use energy-efficient equipment and eco-friendly packaging to reduce their environmental impact.
Visiting Exmoor Distillery
The thing that excites us most about Exmoor Distillery though, is that they welcome visitors for tastings & guided tours of the distillery 7 days a week. The tours take just less than an hour and cost just £14.50 pp. The experts will talk you through the distilling process, give you history, insight and a jolly good time. And of course, you’ll get to sample their bounty of booze along the way. (Please note that dogs are welcome on site but not allowed in the production area.)
We think it’s a lovely way for liquor lovers to learn to really appreciate what they’re drinking, as well such a fun and interesting day out. You could say it’ll be a barrel of laughs…!
It’s a beautifully designed, smart and aesthetically pleasing place to visit and they also regularly do specialty cocktail hours*! Gimme gimme gimme a gimlet this Summer… And, come Winter, where better a place for a Dark ‘n’ Stormy than Exmoor?! Enjoy a delicious drink with these pros, and later that night, you might just find yourself feeling that there’s something magical in the moonshine.
*enquire directly with the distillery for dates/timings on this.
