Exmoor Driving Route | A Day Out on East Exmoor

Exmoor Driving Route – East of Exmoor Loop.  This is a great way to explore Exmoor, just jump in the car and head along the picturesque roads to find what’s out there. Follow the route outlined below to follow picturesque roads through the beautiful landscape, with plenty to do along the way.

The total driven distance is 42 miles – the route will probably keep you busy for the whole day. To follow the route as described, start in Dunster and head anti-clockwise. Of course, as this is a circular route, you can pick up the route anywhere that suits you.

A. Dunster – Explore the Castle and Working Watermill. The yarn market, Priory Church, Gallox Bridge and Dovecot are all features worth a visit in this medieval village.
B. Luccombe village – see the 13th century church
C. Webbers Post – walk from the car park, great views
D. Dunkery Hill – climb to the beacon, the highest point on Exmoor
E. Dunkery Gate – coastal picnic area
F. Wheddon Cross – the highest village on Exmoor, find shops, tea rooms, pub
G. Winsford – 7 beautiful bridges, also find a shop, tea rooms, pub
H. Tarr Steps – an ancient clapper bridge, Tarr Farm for refreshments.
I. Exmoor Pony Centre, Ashwick
J. Dulverton – guildhall, church and bridge, tea rooms and shops
K. Brompton Regis – Pulhams Mill craft shop and tea rooms, Wimbleball Lake Country Park
L. Cowbridge sawmill, Timberscombe
