Looking for a unique or unusual place to stay? Exmoor is full of interesting, one-of-a-kind properties, many with aeons of history or a story to tell.

Everyone has their own individual tastes and preferences when it comes to a holiday break. And of course, many love the variety of one stay to the next.

Here are a few of our properties with a quirk or two to set them apart…

Little House in the Big Woods

Personally, I can’t help but love places with a ‘den’ type quality. Perhaps it resonates with my inner child; secret spots in the woods to explore from and have fun.

This little glamping pod, ‘Little House in the Big Woods’ certainly ticks that box for me… Set within 500 acres of private land at the head of a valley. With miles of walking literally on the doorstep, it’s a great base for couples or solo travellers to base themselves on an Exmoor getaway.

Interesting Features:

    • Small but perfectly formed tiny house pod
    • Set in rural, remote location

The Old Post Office

Exford, Somerset

For a different kind of intrigue, how about a stay in an old village post office? Central to Exmoor, The Old Post Office dates back to the 18th century. Initially a blacksmith forge, the building became the village hardware store in the 1920’s. Later the post office and now finally a fabulous base for an Exmoor break.

Interesting Features:

    • A building with a story to tell; once blacksmiths forge, then hardware store and post office

Chapel Knap

Porlock Weir, Somerset

This unusual house has a variety of extraordinary elements… The oldest part is in fact a chapel dating back to the 12th century – now that’s seen some history! Although the majority of the house was built much more recently, it nonetheless offers further quirky features (how about an enormous pink bathroom with chaise longue, anyone??). In addition, the garden is spectacular, with many unusual plant species in abundance. Also – did I mention the out of this world sea views?

Interesting Features:

    • Built incorporating a chapel dating back to the 12th century
    • Eclectic interior of antiques and interest
    • Exotic gardens with fabulous flora
