The cottage does not have a stair gate. Take a book and enjoy listening to the stream running by! Please note, the steps down to the streamside garden are steep and due to the location, children should be supervised. The speed/flow of the stream can vary considerably depending on the time of year and recent rainfall. The region
+ MorePorlock is a wonderful working Exmoor village and boasts three pubs, two grocery shops, a traditional local butcher, chemist, cash machine, petrol station, hardware shop, visitor centre, several art galleries and a range of independent restaurants, shops and tea rooms. Porloc...k Weir is approximately 1.5 miles from Porlock and is well worth a visit. There's a pub, restaurant, and take-away plus a range of individual shops such as tea rooms, Exmoor Glass, etc. Many of the shops in Porlock and Porlock Weir are open during traditional hours of 9 am to 5 pm, although hours are often extended during the summer season. Conversely, some shops also reduce their opening hours out of season. Minehead is the nearest town, approximately 6 miles from Porlock. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco, Morrison's and Lidl are both situated on the outskirts of the town and have longer opening hours), most major high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops throughout the town.
There is something for everyone here. A good place to start is by visiting www.porlock.co.uk/ for up to date information on local events, where to eat and drink, Exmoor walks and activities to join in - from horse-riding to guided bat walks in Horner Woods to craft fairs. The Visitor Centre and Library in Porlock village - on the high street, near the Top Ship pub - you will find plenty of tourist information, suggestions and maps. And of course, have a look at https://www.exmoor-nationalpark.gov.uk/
There are many, many walks to be enjoyed on Exmoor. From the front door of High Bank, turn right and you are on a trail up Ley Coombe on to the moor; a moderate 6.5 mile walk takes you up to Dunkery Beacon, Exmoor's highest point. A gentle two mile walk, heading down the hill and through Porlock village brings you to Bossington beach and from there you can turn right and explore Bossington Hill, and a lovely woodland trail brings you from there to Selworthy village and its famously picturesque white church.
