The region
+ MoreThe village of Porlock is a traditional working Exmoor village; it boasts three pubs, two grocery shops, Post Office, a traditional local butcher, chemist, cash machine, hardware shop, visitor centre and a range of independent restaurants, shops and tea rooms. Minehead is the ...nearest town, approximately 7 miles away. Here you will find the larger supermarkets and petrol stations (Tesco and Morrison's are both situated on the outskirts of the town and have longer opening hours), most major high street banks with cash machines, plus a range of other shops throughout the town.
Several pubs and restaurants are available within a 3 minute walk of the cottage, along with two grocery stores, open till quite late.
Exmoor is a stunning national park that is often overlooked. When the surf is right there is a break at Lynton - seek locals advice for the best times. Walking, photography, cycling, bird watching and local wildlife are all available by foot with no need to get in your car. The number 10 bus runs between Minehead and Lynton and stops at the end of the Drang in Porlock so you can do one way walks - check the bus times when you arrive.
Maps and guide books are in the cottage for you to use. Field glasses are also available.
