Dulverton is a historic market town in West Somerset, close to the Devon border, that is often called “the Southern gateway to Exmoor”. It’s extremely welcoming to visitors at all times of the year and offers ideal access to Exmoor National Park which, as Europe’s very first International Dark Skies Reserve, provides almost limitless moorland exploration opportunities during day and night alike—as proven by the extremely popular December festival, “Dulverton by Starlight”.
Standing between the rivers Barle and Exe, which converge a little further along the steep wooded valley outside of town, Dulverton offers visitors spectacular scenery—recognised formally as a Site of Special Scientific Interest—as well as a vibrant array of activities, including particularly good trout and salmon fishing opportunities. Keen walkers will find Dulverton to be an ideal location for exploring local hiking routes, not least because both the routes of the famous Exe Valley Way and Land's End Trail pass through the town. Indeed, many lovely walks begin within Dulverton itself, including the riverside trails along the Barle in both directions. Just a few miles north, meanwhile, is Winsford Hill with its open and unspoiled moorland, so guests do not have to stray far from the town to enjoy a picture-perfect taste of Exmoor’s wild delights.
